Behavioral Research Studies for the Hospital Organizational Characteristics


Abstract
Little research has been conducted on the hospital organizational characteristics from behavioral point of aspect in korea. It has been demonstrated by social and behavioral scientists that oragnizational design acknowledging the characteristics of individuals has independent and significant affects on the organi2ation¢¥s effectiveness as well as its efficiency.
The present study has a dual concern
:(1) to identify and describe the predominant perception of the hospital personnels on the management system model developed by Likert, and
(2) to assist to develop a conceptualization of organization design of the hospital
The research methods used in this study was self-dministered questionnaire responses made on four point Likert type scale to a series of belief statements on the management system.
The subjects were health professionals working in a university hospital organization. A self-administered questionnaire designed to measure the amount of agreement with each of six organizational variables (Leadership, Motivation, Communication, Decision, Goals, Controls).
A total of 28 physicians, 39 managerial personnels, 14 medical technologist and 36 nurses responded,return rate was 99%.
The result was as follows:
1. Nursing professionals were highest in most of organizational variables (Leadership, Decision Making, Goals). However there were no significant differences in the variables of Motivation, Communication, Controls among each professional group.
2. Leadership was statistically significant organizational variable in physicians.
3. There was no statistically significant organizational variables in managerial personnels.
4. Leadership, Communication and Decision Making were statistically significant in meadical technologists and head technologists were higher than other technologists in organizational characteristic values.
5. Staff nurses were higher than charge, head, and lay nurses.
